I knew that it was only a matter of time before some clown came forward to tell the world that the problems in Gaza are Israel’s fault (and the U.S.’s as well). And I had a pretty good idea as to who that clown might be. Who’s that, you ask? Why Jimmy Carter, of course! Setting aside for the moment that he was one of the worst presidents in American history, and that he is easily our worst ex-president (I’ll have lots more to say about that in the future), he is today nothing but a disgruntled, bought-and-paid-for Arab flack and a nasty anti-semite. For those who want a more immediate look at Carter’s pathetic service to his country, I strongly recommend a great book by Steven F. Hayward, entitled The Real Jimmy Carter—how our worst ex-president undermines American foreign policy, coddles dictators, and created the party of Clinton and Kerry, published by Regnery Publishers (2004)

But let’s leave Carter—at least for the moment—and take a look at what’s going on in Gaza and how it came about. A brief history might help to set the stage for the current conflagration. As a consequence of the 1947 partition, Gaza was to become a part of a new Palestinian State. The Arabs rejected the plan, and, as a consequence, no Palestinian State ever came into existence. After the 1948 war between Israel and its neighbors, Gaza was occupied by Egypt until the 1967 war when Israel’s neighbors once again felt the need to test Israel’s resolve.
