Sandy Berger, Clinton’s National Security Advisor, admitted that he removed national security documents from the Archives and destroyed some of them. Which documents did he destroy? We’ll never know because they were original documents, and there was no record of which documents he removed. Moreover, as noted, they were original documents—there were no copies. Mr. Berger first argued that the removal was an “oversight.” He then admitted to this crime after denying his guilt by suggesting that he removed the documents due to time constraints and the desire to review them at a more leisurely pace in the privacy of his office—this despite the rather unusual method of removal, i.e. stuffing them in his pants and socks. Assuming that this passes your laugh test, how does Berger explain the subsequent destruction of the documents? How does he explain the fact that he took a break in his Archives visit, went outside, and hid the documents under a trailer in an adjacent construction site? Finally, he just gave up the ghost and copped to his guilt.
Bill Clinton, that libidinous jokester, tried to fob the whole thing off by just saying that’s good
